Costa Rica’s Corcovado National Park comprises a large portion of the country’s beautiful Osa Peninsula. Your visit to Sirena Station starts with a reservation, the 103,290 acres (41,800 ha) of Parque Nacional Corcovado are accessible by appointment only, per a government mandate. Once your tour is confirmed, your boat ride from Drake Bay will last about one hour. It’s recommended that you wear sandals for this portion of your tour, because once you arrive, a wet beach will be the first terrain you set foot on.
From there, you’ll change into your hiking gear and set out on your adventure. Since this station is less accessible, there is greater opportunity to spot some of the rarest rainforest wildlife. Sirena rewards the more adventurous traveler with the true experience of what National Geographic Magazine has called “the most biologically intense place on earth.”
While hiking along the trails you’ll find yourself crossing streams/rivers, in addition to traversing across slippery, sloping terrain. Sandals are not recommended for the hiking portion of the tour.
In addition to bringing shoes for both wet and dry terrain, it is also recommended that you bring a towel, swimsuit, hat, camera, binoculars, insect repellant, sunscreen, and wear long (yet lightweight) clothing. Be prepared to enjoy your amazing wildlife adventure!
